- Drug delivery: Patented a number of protein/peptide delivery systems based on polysaccharides, random copolymer complexes, immiscible solvents, in-situ gelation. Expertise on surfactant/polymer systems for solubilization and transport of active agents of low water solubility, polymeric beads and microparticles. The choice of delivery system can be tailor-made or judiciously chosen “off the shelf.” Analysis of data using drug release models, molecular diffusion and microcirculation.
- Extensive work with large and small animal models especially for PK studies on drug delivery systems subsequent to subcutaneous (sc) injection.
- Polymeric biomaterials: Patented novel polymers and copolymers, including block and graft, based on (meth)acrylic esters, siloxanes, perfluorinated and polyalkylene oxide materials, by use of addition and condensation polymerization. These synthetic polymers as well as natural polymers and others in related classes can be used as both drug carriers and matrices for drug depots depending on the application.
- Formulation: Early and late stage development of protein products, especially mAbs, and late stage on peptide, which included commercialization activities. Other formulation activities and their accompanying stability and analytical studies included proteins, peptides, polymers, long-acting constructs (PEGylation, depots etc), and special formulations e.g., topical, enhancers.
- Subcutaneous (sc) space: Detailed studies of the sc space including force/pressure of device injection and migration of mAb into and away from the sc space.
- Fluid Flow: Expertise in rheology/viscosity, high concentration protein formulation, protein/protein/surfactant interaction, drug microcirculation and molecular diffusion.
Analytical Methods: Rheology, fluorescence, chromatography and other common spectroscopic techniques.
